A death doula (also called an end-of-life doula, death midwife, etc) is a non-medical companion and guide for people who are dying and their loved ones. I offer emotional, practical, and spiritual support that honors your beliefs. It is my intention to help make the end of life as meaningful, peaceful, and aligned with your wishes as possible. You can think of it as having a knowledgeable, caring presence in your corner during one of life’s most significant passages.

No. I welcome conversations with anyone who wants to explore end-of-life planning, clarify their wishes, or simply think more intentionally about death and dying. Preparing ahead of time is a gift to yourself and the people who love you.

Hospice is a medical service focused on comfort care in the final stages of illness. It can include some social supports. A death doula is non-medical and can work alongside hospice. We offer a different kind of presence and support that the medical and social work system isn’t designed to provide. We can work together easily and complement each other.

Most people describe it as deeply relaxing and dreamlike, and feel they rest in a state that hovers between wakefulness and sleep. The mind gets more quiet, and something deeper opens. Some people experience emotional release, vivid imagery, or body sensations. Some people experience a feeling of coherence in the systems of the body, and greater clarity. Just as there are variations in how people experience the sound journey, there are variations each time one experiences it. Often, the experience gets more profound the less novel it is. Sound meditation can be a practice.

Absolutely! All you need is openness, curiosity about your inner world, and a desire to let yourself drop into the experience to whatever degree is available to you at the moment. Each session opens with a guided meditation and breath work to help you to get present and start the process of nervous system down regulation. There is no “bad” way to do it. Your experience will be your own.

Sound journey group sessions typically run 75–90 minutes. Death doula sessions are highly variable in duration and frequency— we’ll talk through what makes sense for your situation.

Sound journeys are offered at two studio locations in the Austin area, at libraries and community venues throughout central Texas, and in your home or workplace for private and group bookings. Death doula work happens wherever you are. I can work with you at home, in a care facility, or remotely.
